The ACT Government is seeking to āmoderniseā the Discrimination Act 1991. However, the Exposure Draft Bill to amend the Act removes important exemptions for religious organisations and introduces changes that seriously undermine religious freedoms.
If passed, the Bill will allow unacceptable intrusions into the church by the State, such as:
- Subjecting staff and volunteer appointments to judicial oversight
- Potentially forcing Christian organisations to use their property against their religious conscience
Please take a moment to voice your opposition to these changes ā which will weaken protections for churches, religious schools, and people of faith.
